Has anyone tried bikram yoga?
I’m a 20 year old girl at my dad’s for the summer having left my gym behind! I want to stay active and I’ve heard about bikram yoga. I was wondering if anyone has tried it, and if they’ve liked it. I’m looking to lose a few pounds and just be overall a bit healthier. Also, can beginners do it? I have never tried any kind of yoga. Thanks!
Answers:
I tried Bikram a few months ago. I remember the first class being absolutely brutal, and your goal for the first (several) classes will be to simply stay in the room, whether you’re doing the poses, or simply lying on the mat. Everyone’s bodies are different, but your body will most likely need a few sessions to get used to the heat and humidity.
Beginner’s can definitely do Bikram yoga! Bikram yoga was created in a way that allows people of all fitness levels to participate, whether you’re a newbie, or a veteran looking to perfect your poses.
Definitely try it! Just remember to take it SLOW. I can’t emphasize that enough. It’s really easy as a beginner to get carried away and over-stretch those muscles.
Also, bring LOTS of water, and eat only a small meal 3-5 hours before class, giving your body time to digest your food. (I can almost guarantee you: If you go to class on a full stomach, you will get nauseous!)
Yea I have done it.
It is the most effective workout for getting abs. Go to a few classes and check out the people in there. It gets you absolutely ripped. Seriously.

Can anyone recommend a wellness-body-mind-spirit retreat in the US?
Can anyone recommend a wellness/body-mind-spirit retreat in the US?
I’m looking for a place to stay between 7 to 12 days this summer. I need to detox, eat healthy foods, do some yoga, maybe swim and hike. I found one place that sounds perfect, except it will cost about $3.000. I’d like to spend less, but if I can’t find a better place I might have to settle for $3.000.
I live in Texas, if that makes a difference.
Answers:
honey don’t waste your money. u can do all of that for way less in texas. just go to a massage clinic and u’ll feel like princess or a spa
It is located in the beautiful and scenic santa monica mountains. They do lots of hikes. If you walk far enough you get a view of the Pacific Ocean and Malibu beaches. The website is a little slow, click the california location then keep reloading the page if the loading bar get stuck at a certain percentage.
Oh, this place is even more expensive though.

i have mixed feelings about that, i was there for about 3 weeks.

Is Bikram Yoga right for me?
Is Bikram Yoga right for me?
I’m 23, I weigh about 140 pounds, and I’m about 5’9″ tall. I am in generally good fitness, and for many years I have gone through periods of more and less serious exercise including weight lifting, running, swimming, cycling, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and practicing basic yoga in my home.
Recently I have not been exercising very seriously, I run, practice yoga, and do pull-ups and push-ups occasionally. I also bike about a mile to and from work everyday.
I have been considering taking Bikram Yoga classes at a local studio, but I am concerned that it might not be the best thing for my body type. I am already pretty thin, and I don’t really want to get thinner, I’d much rather build strength and muscle, but I also appreciate the benefits of stretching and improving core strength.
I worry that the heated room will simply cause me to lose too many calories and that I’ll just get smaller. I had this problem when I tried P90X a few months ago and ended up losing 10 pounds in the span of three weeks.
I don’t have the time/budget to eat constantly or buy weight gaining supplements, and I know these are the best ways to gain weight and get bigger. I don’t really need that or see it as entirely realistic for me, but I want to make sure that I won’t have to seriously curb my diet in order to maintain my already frail shape when taking on Bikram Yoga.
Should I take on Bikram Yoga?

Knee Pain After Tree Pose – Bikram Yoga?
Knee Pain After Tree Pose – Bikram Yoga?
I am experiencing knee pain during Tree Pose of Bikram Yoga (I am a new student). It happens to both knees but is only in the knee that is bent, and it is not during the pose, but only when I release my leg back to the ground. It feels dull and achy, like a stiff joint, and it only last a moment. I am wondering, is this normal, and will continue to improve with my practice, or am I causing more damage to my knees?
Answers:
Think for a second why pain is there.
It’s a warning.
Heed it.
If there’s any pain, refrain, use your brain.

Can any Nepali speakers translate these groups of text for me?
Can any Nepali speakers translate these groups of text for me?
I have made 2 groups up on Hinduism and Buddhism in Nepal and would like to attract more nepali photographers to the group. So for a nice touch i want to add some nepali text to the group. If anyone is able to translate these two groups of text into Nepali Sanskrit then i would be most grateful.
1. Hinduism is the major religion of Nepal. Approximately 80.6 percent of the Nepalese people identify themselves as Hindus. The national calendar of Nepal, Bikram Sambat (B.S.), is a solar Hindu calendar essentially the same to that widespread in North India as a religious calendar, and is based on Vedic principles of time-keeping. Historians and local traditions say that a Hindu sage named “Ne” established himself in the valley of Kathmandu during prehistoric times, and that the word “Nepal” means the place protected (“pala” in Sanskrit) by the sage Ne.
2. Buddhist influences are evident in the culture of Nepal because Buddha was born in what is now southern Nepal. Nepal has a strong Buddhist background and has played a role in the spread of Buddhism to Tibet. Nepalese princess Bhrikuti played a significant role in the development of Buddhism in Tibet and the Far East. Tibetan Buddhist architecture has long been influenced by Nepalese artists and sculptors like Araniko. The sacred Buddhist texts in Mahayana Buddhism are mainly written in Ranjana script (the script of Newars) or scripts like Lantsa which are derived from Ranjana.

Is it better to do the same or a variety of different types of exercise?
Is it better to do the same or a variety of different types of exercise?
e.g. 90 mins of bikram yoga (hot yoga – burns approx. 700 calories) everyday and ab exercises 3 times a week for 30 mins
OR
during the week: jogging, rowing, trampoline, bikram yoga, walking, swimming and ab workout 3 times a week
Im trying to tone up and lose a little weight as well as lift my mood!
Which of the two would be better for this?
Thanks
Answers:
It doesn’t really matter what you do as long as you switch it up ever few weeks.
I would suggest: 90 min of bikram yoga twice a week, ab excises 3 times a week, cardio (i.e. running) 2-3 times a week.
Then, in a few months, cut it to 30 minutes of bikram yoga twice a week, lift weights three times a week, try a different cardio 2-3 times a week, etc.

I was at a retreat and there was a Yoga instructor. He told me that I needed to quit belly breathing. No more belly breathing. I don’t know what he meant since the lungs go into the belly.
